The Ursids are known for their relatively slow meteors, which can be easier to spot if you take the time to watch patiently. While the shower produces fewer meteors than some others—typically around 5 to 10 per hour—its timing near the winter solstice adds to its mystical appeal. The cold, clear nights provide perfect conditions for stargazing.

The Ursids originate from debris left behind by the comet 8P/Tuttle. As Earth passes through this trail of cosmic dust, tiny particles enter our atmosphere at high speeds and burn up, creating bright streaks of light. These meteors are often slow-moving and bright, making them easier to spot even in less-than-perfect conditions
