The Perseids are active for several weeks, usually from mid-July through late August. The show builds slowly, peaks around mid-August, then fades. For most viewers, the best nights are August 11, 12, and 13, with the strongest activity usually on the night of August 12 into the early morning of August 13.

A dark night full of meteors is rare enough. A total solar eclipse on the same date is the kind of sky event people plan trips around years in advance. On August 12, 2026, the annual Perseids meteor shower reaches its peak under a new moon, while a total solar eclipse sweeps across parts of the Northern Hemisphere.
